What happens during an acupuncture treatment?

In the initial consultation, you will be asked in-depth questions about your health history and chief
complaint. During follow-up assessments, the practitioner will ask you focused questions to get
updated on your health status.  She will look at your tongue and feel your pulses to assess your
state of health.

On Point Acupuncture uses only single-use, disposable, stainless steel needles.  These needles are
about the width of a hair and most patients report no pain or discomfort upon insertion.  The
needles are inserted at certain anatomical points and are retained for approximately 20 minutes,
where patients often feel relaxed and at ease.

Other modalities used at On Point Acupuncture are cupping, moxabustion, gua sha, electrical
stimulation, Chinese massage and Chinese herbal prescriptions.  The practitioner will inform you if
she feels one of these treatments may help with your health issue.

Will Chinese Herbs be part of my
treatment?

The use of Chinese herbs is an even older system
of medicine than acupuncture.  In China, herbs
are more recommended than acupuncture
because of their efficacy and ability to treat
complex patterns of disease.  Chinese herbal
formulas are often made up of 4 or more herbs
that function synergistically to support the body's
natural balance.   Herbal formulas can be quite
potent and have the added benefit of being taken
every day.
At On Point Acupuncture, an herbal formula can be tailor-made for you depending on your
constitutional type as well as what imbalances you may have.  We use the highest grade
herbal granules and patents from reputable companies that have no danger of contaminants.
